South Miami Lutheran Pre-school

Curriculum

Our religious curriculum is taught by Pastor and our teachers. Our children are taught Bible stories. We begin with the Old Testament until Christmas, when we study the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. After Christmas, the life and teachings of Christ are studied. Each week the children will be taught the Bible story by their classroom teacher; songs and prayers will be practiced daily in the classrooms. On Thursday mornings at 9:15 AM we have a chapel service administered by Pastor. You and your family have an open invitation to join us for chapel at any time.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Our method of teaching is a "hands-on" approach. Children, as most people, learn easiest and have more fun when they learn through their senses and by experiences. Our main educational goal is to foster a desire for learning within each child and enrich his/her self-esteem. With good self-esteem, a child's potential is unlimited.

We present information through games and activities which involve the child physically. Your child may not necessarily bring home a "paper" every day; please understand that does not mean "he/she did nothing" at school that day. It means that the child is a participant, not just an observer, in his/her classroom, and is physically involved in a variety of creative learning activities such as finger painting, clay molding, felt board work, etc. Through this method, success is possible for all children. At South Miami Lutheran School ,children are not perceived as bad or lazy; rather, goodness and success are seen within each child. Children will always be treated with kindness and respect.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

We plan to help your child grow socially by helping him/her to be comfortable away from home, to share, to cooperate, to respect those in authority, and to respect the property of others.

We will help your child to grow physically through activities geared for the development of large muscle control (such as running, jumping, hopping, climbing, balancing, marching, and dancing).

We have a five year program that will prepare your child for kindergarten. We avoid stress and highly structured classrooms. We do not teach reading, but rather reading readiness skills. We teach children to see relationships between himself/herself and things in his/her environment. We teach how to learn.
